Active Situations
AI Debt / Earnings Week
Escalating
CoreWeave's 2031 bonds touched 15% yield last week and remain near distress levels. Netflix reports tonight after the close. Meta and Tesla follow Wednesday. GE Aerospace, GM, RTX, and 3M report this morning. This is the most loaded earnings week of the quarter, landing on a market that just posted its worst week since June.
Graham Act / Russia Sanctions
Escalating
Trump's executive order waiving the Graham Act took effect Friday, ahead of the law's scheduled start over the weekend. The law passed the Senate 86–11. The order suspends 500% tariffs on Russian goods and 100% tariffs on nations buying Russian energy. Bessent said Sunday that "no sanctions were lifted." The order's own text says "I am hereby waiving." Senators from both parties are demanding enforcement.
Ukraine-Russia War
Escalating
Russia struck Ukraine's energy grid again Monday with ballistic missiles and drones. Zelenskyy said Ukraine got no early warning from partners and confirmed that Starshield — the Pentagon-controlled military satellite system — has been degraded. Bessent warned Zelenskyy to be "very careful" about blaming Washington. Moscow has hit energy targets more than 76 times since the announced ceasefire.
US-Iran / Strait of Hormuz
Holding
Iran's FM Araghchi said Sunday the seven-day Hormuz reopening offer still stands. The condition: Washington lifts its port blockade first. The Pentagon has developed new strike plans including MOAB deployment against Iranian energy and nuclear sites. Trump said the US "may have to" strike Pickaxe Mountain. No US strikes on Iranian soil confirmed in over a month.

Intelligence Briefing
Earnings Start Tonight. The Bond Market Already Has a Verdict.
CONFIDENCE: HIGH
What
Over 50 companies report this week. GE Aerospace and GM report before this morning's bell. Netflix reports after tonight's close. Meta and Tesla follow Wednesday. The Nasdaq 100 rebounded 1.3% Monday as traders bought beaten-down chips. SMH rose nearly 3% after nine straight losing sessions.
So What
Monday's bounce was a reflex, not a verdict. CoreWeave bonds stayed near 15% yield while stocks rallied — and when credit refuses to follow equity higher, credit is usually right. CoreWeave carries $50B+ in debt tied to AI data center buildout. If that debt is mispriced, the entire AI financing chain reprices with it. Netflix is the first real test tonight. Netflix guided $12.86B in revenue; consensus sits slightly higher near $12.87B. The stock is already down 25% this year. A miss on ad revenue or subscriber growth sends a signal about tech spending that reaches well beyond one company.
Now What
Watch Netflix guidance, not the Q3 numbers. If the full-year revenue range narrows or drops, the sell-off resumes Wednesday morning — before Meta and Tesla even report.
The US Is Stripping Ukraine's Air Defense — and Telling Kyiv to Stay Quiet
CONFIDENCE: MODERATE
What
Zelenskyy said Monday that Ukraine received no early warning before Russian ballistic missiles struck energy sites. He confirmed that Starshield — the Pentagon-provided military satellite system — has been degraded. Russia has hit energy targets more than 76 times since Trump's announced ceasefire. Bessent told Zelenskyy on Sunday to be "very careful" about blaming Washington publicly.
So What
The Starshield cuts and the Graham Act waiver form one pattern. The Senate passed sanctions 86–11 in August. Trump waived them 28 days after signing them into law. The US gave Ukraine satellite coverage for ballistic missile defense. Now that coverage is throttled while Russia runs daily strikes on the grid. Both moves reduce Kyiv's leverage before any peace talks. Both were denied or reframed by senior officials. The message to Moscow is not in the press statements — it is in the sequence of actions.
Now What
Watch whether Congress subpoenas SpaceX or the Pentagon for Starshield service records. If the degradation is confirmed as a policy decision, not a technical issue, it rewrites the legal framing of US involvement in this war.
Iran's Hormuz Offer Stays Open. The Pentagon Loaded the MOAB.
CONFIDENCE: MODERATE
What
Iran's FM Araghchi said Sunday the seven-day Hormuz reopening proposal still stands. The condition: Washington lifts its port blockade first. CNN reported the Pentagon has new strike plans that include the GBU-43 — the so-called "Mother of All Bombs" — targeting Iranian energy and nuclear sites. Trump said the US "may have to" strike Pickaxe Mountain.
So What
Two tracks are running at the same time. The diplomatic offer is unchanged. The military planning has moved forward. Bloomberg noted the MOAB cannot reach the deep bunkers under Pickaxe Mountain. A strike would hit surface targets — refineries, oil terminals, visible buildings. That damages Iran's revenue without touching its enrichment program. For oil markets, a strike on Iranian energy infrastructure would remove supply already off the market, but the signal alone could push Brent well past $120. It settled at $107.11 Monday.
Now What
Midterms are November 3 — two weeks out. A strike before the vote spikes fuel prices. A strike after removes the political cost. The calendar is the variable, not the capability.
Under The Radar
Drones Hit Two Tankers in NATO Waters. The Alliance Said Nothing.
On October 14–15, drones struck two chemical tankers off Romania's Black Sea coast. Both ships caught fire. Seven sailors from a San Marino-flagged vessel remain missing. Romanian authorities confirmed the drones violated the country's airspace overnight.
Romania is a NATO member. Article 5 covers armed attacks on member territory. Yet NATO released a brief statement about "working closely with allies" — no emergency session, no formal consultation, no escalation. Commercial ships burned inside a NATO state's territorial waters, and the alliance treated it as a footnote.
The story disappeared within a day. No government wants to answer whether drone strikes in NATO waters trigger a collective defense obligation — not with US midterms two weeks away and the war's endgame still unwritten.

Final Assessment
Markets bounced Monday. Chips led. Futures climbed overnight. The working assumption: last week was the low.
Three things are not priced. The US is pulling Ukraine's battlefield support through satellite throttling and sanctions waivers, which shortens the path to a forced settlement — and forced settlements redraw energy maps. Iran's Hormuz offer sits beside MOAB strike plans on the same Pentagon desk, and the midterm calendar decides which one runs. And this week's earnings will answer whether the AI capex boom is producing revenue or just debt trading at 15 cents on the dollar in yield terms.
The credit market answered that last question on Thursday. The equity market has not decided whether to listen. By Friday it will have no choice.
