Active Situations
Iran-US War / Strait of Hormuz Escalating
Vance chaired an unannounced Camp David war council Friday with Rubio, Hegseth, Witkoff, and CIA Director Ratcliffe. Iran and Yemen were on the agenda. Iran's parliament speaker said Sunday that Hormuz stays closed until all seven conditions from the June agreement are met. At least five tankers have been struck by unidentified projectiles in the strait since Sept 28, with three more reported hit on Oct 3.
Saudi-Houthi Conflict New
Fire broke out near an Aramco refinery south of Riyadh on Saturday after a claimed Houthi strike. Houthis claimed Saudi coalition forces responded with 26 air raids on Sanaa the same day. Yemen was the second item on the Camp David agenda, signaling that US involvement in this front is under active discussion.
Russia-Ukraine War Holding
Russia pledged to intensify strikes on Kyiv after drones damaged the Northern Bridge over the weekend. Zelenskyy vowed to expand attacks on Russian oil refineries. He confirmed Sunday that the US proposed trilateral peace talks with Russia by end of October.
Treasury Yields / Bank Earnings Holding
The 10-year settled near 5.26% Monday, easing from Friday's 5.28%. Oct 28 FOMC hike odds sit near 18%. JPMorgan reports Q3 earnings Oct 13 against the FDIC's $326.7B in unrealized bank losses.

Your deadline to get positioned for Elon's NEXT MOVE

I've uncovered an FCC filing from Elon Musk that lays out his NEXT MOVE, one he's working hard to keep quiet.

What's buried in this filing could be bigger than PayPal, Tesla, and SpaceX combined.

The BIGGEST thing he's ever attempted, and the BIGGEST opportunity he's ever handed the people paying attention.

This won't stay quiet for long.

After that, the window to position yourself early on this opportunity could be gone forever.

I lay it all out in a FREE presentation.

The presentation is completely FREE to watch.

No purchase required. No credit card needed.

Once you see what's inside, you'll understand why he's kept it so quiet.

Intelligence Briefing
EIA Forecast Lands as Diesel Stocks Hit Generational Lows
CONFIDENCE: HIGH
What
The EIA releases its updated Short-Term Energy Outlook today. The September edition projected US distillate inventories falling below 100 million barrels in September and staying below the five-year low through much of 2027. It warned that global tightness would keep driving US refiners to export even as domestic prices climb. Diesel hit a record $6.53 per gallon nationally on Sept 21. Two bills from Rep. Burchett — H.R. 10423 and H.R. 10422 — would ban or restrict exports.
So What
Diesel moves roughly 70% of US freight by weight. Sub-100-million-barrel inventory is the thinnest supply cushion since 2003. Every ten-cent increase per gallon adds billions in annualized shipping costs, and those costs reach shelf prices within weeks. Goldman concluded last week that an export ban would hit Latin American buyers hardest and reroute global fuel flows. Senator Grassley has urged an embargo. Heating season starts this month, and a sub-100-million-barrel starting position with record prices leaves almost no margin for a cold winter or a supply shock.
Now What
Today's updated forecast sets the baseline for October. If the inventory outlook tightens, the export ban bills gain real traction in Congress. Watch the House Energy Committee calendar.
Secret Camp David Session Mirrors the One Before Airstrikes
CONFIDENCE: MODERATE
What
Vance chaired an hours-long meeting at Camp David on Friday that the White House never announced. Rubio, Hegseth, Witkoff, and CIA Director Ratcliffe attended. Iran and the Saudi-Houthi conflict were the two agenda items. Axios reported the session through three US officials.
So What
The precedent matters. In June 2025, a similar group met at Camp David. Days later, Israel struck Iran. The current posture is further along: a third carrier group is heading for the Gulf, joining two already there, Iran's parliament declaring the strait stays closed, and at least eight tankers hit since Sept 28. The Saudi-Houthi front adds a second theater — an Aramco refinery fire near Riyadh and 26 Saudi raids on Sanaa over the weekend show Yemen is now on the table. The gap between the June 2025 Camp David session and kinetic action was measured in days. Trump has said strikes could resume after the Nov 3 midterms.
Now What
The Theodore Roosevelt arrives by the end of November, giving the US maximum naval force in theater aligned with the midterm calendar. The date to watch is Nov 4.
Spain Snap Election Sends Euro to 17-Month Low
CONFIDENCE: HIGH
What
Sanchez called early elections Monday after Parliament rejected emergency housing measures. The euro fell to $1.1211 against the dollar, its lowest since May 2025. The dollar index climbed to 102.27, its highest close in 18 months.
So What
Spain is the eurozone's fourth-largest economy. Sanchez has been Europe's most vocal critic of Trump's foreign policy. His political crisis lands alongside France's growing debt burden ahead of its 2027 presidential race — France and Italy, the two largest eurozone economies after Germany, both unstable at the same time. The Popular Party's Feijóo leads polls and would likely soften Madrid's stance toward Washington. A rising dollar tightens conditions for every borrower carrying dollar-denominated debt, from São Paulo to Istanbul.
Now What
Watch Spanish-German bond spreads. If they widen past 120 basis points, the ECB faces the fragmentation risk it spent two years trying to bury.
Under The Radar
Five Ships Hit in One Week — Most Were Running Dark
Five vessels were struck by unidentified projectiles in the Strait of Hormuz between Sept 28 and Oct 1. A Kuwait-flagged VLCC caught fire. Crew were evacuated. Three more tankers were reported hit on Oct 3. Most of the targets were transiting without AIS transponders — running dark.

Ships running dark in the strait are almost always shadow-fleet tankers moving sanctioned crude. Targeting them is not random. It is a campaign to shut down the gray-market oil flows leaking through enforcement gaps. If the shadow fleet stops, the discounted barrels reaching China and India stop with it.

Each strike generates a one-day headline. No outlet has connected them as a pattern or asked why most targets were dark.

Final Assessment
Fifty-three years ago today, Egypt and Syria launched a surprise attack on Israel. The Yom Kippur War triggered an oil embargo that quadrupled crude prices within months.

The specifics are different now. But the pattern is familiar: a war council at a presidential retreat, carrier groups massing in the Gulf, a closed strait, and a political calendar that dictates the timing of escalation.

In 1973, the surprise was total. In 2026, the signals are in plain view — Brent above $101, diesel above $6, distillate stocks at their thinnest in 23 years, and a meeting that mirrors the one held days before the last round of strikes. The surprise this time will not be that something happened. It will be that the calendar told everyone when.
